All about the Mess

New York fashion week brought new styles to the runway and gave onlookers tips for this season’s upcoming trends. One trend that we keep noticing is that a lot of the hair styles is all about the mess and LOTS of hairspray.

Watch as Bb. editorial stylist Jordan M shares how they created the trend for Katya Leonovich’s designs.

Why you should wear Red

Glamour writer Lauren Tardancio recently released tips for adding red into your daily outfit. While Red is a loud color and can seem intimidating, we agree that wearing it right definitely ads extra spice to your outfit, setting you apart from the rest.

Tardancio admits that Tangerine Tango is the official color for 2012, but confesses that these red looks have her sold:

Tardancio says: You may not normally think of wearing head-to-toe red, but this look proves that a dark layer under your sweater paired with similar color shoes and a great tote is all you need to break up the look to make it work.

Tardancio says: We’ve been crushing on color-blocked looks for a while, but there’s something about a red and navy combo (maybe it’s the super-sophisticated nautical feel?) that’s cool and classic all at the same time.

Want more reasons why you should wear red? This is what the stylists at Haven have to say.

Red lips are hot right now! Pair it with a neutral eye so the red stands out. Stay tuned for our how-to do red lips blog coming on 2/3/12.

Red is an authoritative color. Ever wonder why the President wears red ties? The next time you are giving a presentation at work add a pop of red and captivate your audience.

No Wash Necessary

The once common rule that daily hair washing is a must has been broken. Messy, second day hair is in. With a few tips you can keep your look professional and trendy even on the second day.

The messy ponytail is perfect for the office, errands, or a night out. Pair it with neutral make up and hot red lips to complete the look.

New York Fashion Week

The 2012 New York Fashion Week, which took place in mid-September, featured hair styles crafted by Bumble and bumble stylists with Bb products.

While some of the looks are big-city fabulous, others are practical for any day-time do. Here are some of our favorite styles as well as the “how to adapt runway to everyday” from Shape magazine.

The Look:  Mandy Coon: Effortless Glamor

The inspiration: Influenced by modern Parisian women like Carine Roitfeld, former Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, Bumble and bumble. hair stylist Rolando Beauchamp created an approachable, effortless look for the Mandy Coon Spring 2012 collection. The natural, loose waves of the hair compliment the asymmetric hemlines of the satin dresses, allowing the clothes to solely speak for themselves.

Try this trend: This look’s simplicity makes it incredibly easy to recreate for everyday wear. Start by rubbing gel throughout your hair while it’s still damp. As opposed to the glossy finish of hairspray, Beauchamp says the gel will give your hair a soft, matte look. Blow dry with a flat brush, applying a quarter size of grooming creme to your ends to help weigh them down. Next, twist random sections of hair around a 1-inch curling iron, leaving the ends out. Finish the look by using your hands to work in a texture cream that will give it that perfect undone-yet-done quality.

The Look: Lacoste: Sporty and Fresh

The inspiration: A brand known for their sporty fashion with sharp polo shirts and their iconic crocodile logo, it wasn’t hard for Philippon to decide to create a very natural hairstyle for the Lacoste Spring 2012 runway show.

Try this trend: Straight from the tennis courts to the runway. This fresh look is probably the easiest hairdo of the week to recreate. To get started, spray Bb. Prep onto your roots and then apply Surf Spray all over the head. Simply blow dry your hair with a diffuser, and refine the look by using a small comb to clean up your part.

Best hair products for the job: Bb. Prep($18), Surf Spray ($23)

The Look: Ruffian: Equestrian Royalty

The inspiration: The hairstyle for the Ruffian Spring 2012 collection returns the label to its namesake roots: one of the greatest female, thoroughbred racehorses of all time. Inspired by equestrian royalty like Charlotte Casiraghiand the jockey society, Moodie wanted to create a look that mimicked the braid of a thick horse’s tail.

Try this trend: Prep your hair with Bb. Prep and Thickening Hairspray and then apply a styling cream from roots to end. Power dry the hair and pull it back into a sleek ponytail below the occipital bone. Backcomb the ponytail and then flat iron the hair to create density. Brush it out and braid the hair into a large plait. Polish off your look by applying a finishing spray to the head to give it a bit of shine.

Best hair products for the job: Bb. Prep($18), Thickening Hairspray ($26), Styling Creme ($24), Bb. Shine On Finishing Spray($25)

These three looks are hot for 2012. Ask your Professional Bumble and bumble stylist at Haven how to master the looks at you next appointment.

Fall in Love with Teal

We recently came across an article by Yolanda Wikiel in the September issue of Real Simple that perfectly pairs with the new fall make up trends.

Wikiel tells, “The color of the season: teal. This elegant (and suddenly omnipresent) jewel tone is a brilliant way to update an understated wardrobe, particularly when you pair it with gray, saffron, or violet.”

The 2010 color of the year turquoise has transformed into the “richer, more autumn-friendly teal, as seen on the runways of Fendi, Gucci, and Marc Jacobs.”

Of course you can always match teal with anything black, but these color alternatives add extra spice in your fall wardrobe (and will be a fabulous accent to the Jane Iredale fall make up collection!)

Follow Wikiel’s tips from Real Simple magazine:

  • Pair teal with… Gray.

Opting for steely gray allows you to try a trendy shade and still be taken seriously at work. Teal nails might be pushing it, but then again, they’ll look positively magnetic for a night out.

  • Pair teal with… Saffron.

This exotic duo is more sophisticated (and seasonal) than its primary-color cousin, blue and yellow. Going with cozy knits, wool, and suede keeps this match fall-appropriate, but adding toasty brown tones (even when it comes to makeup) helps, too.

  • Pair teal with… Violet.

These shades may be intense, but since blue and purple lie side  by side on the color wheel, the effect is far from jarring. If you’re up for it, amplify the already opulent palette with a touch of satin, dangling jewels, or boysenberry lips.

Stay trendy this fall!

The Word is Out… Shellac is In!

The ideal manicure consists of two main components: long lasting and a great color. The beauty industry has found a way to turn every manicure into the ideal manicure. UV gel nail polish is a great way to ensure that your manicure still looks salon fresh up to three weeks after your service.

Elaine D’Farley raves about her recent UV gel nail polish manicure in Self Magazine, “they’ve lasted for three weeks without a single nick.”

Haven is offering the wonderful, chip free service known as Shellac. The Shellac service can be added to any manicure for $15 or as a standalone manicure for $35 at Haven.

It’s time to give your nails the pampering they deserve! Call Haven at 920-339-1111 or go online at to schedule your appointment.
